Position: Chief Engineer | Full Time
Job Summary:
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the proper maintenance and upkeep of guestrooms, hotel public areas, back of house spaces, meeting rooms, kitchen, and lounge in accordance to the Ayres Way standards. Maintenance of the hotel may include but is not limited to electrical work, carpentry, painting, plumbing, general maintenance, pool maintenance, furniture repair, and systems upkeep, with particular attention towards safety, security, and protection of hotel assets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Implements and maintains the Engineering department minimum standards. Responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of property maintenance staff.
- Prepares work schedule for staff based on labor standards and authorizes payroll for the department.
- Responsible for coaching, counseling, and training maintenance department team members. Conducts 90-day performance evaluations and annual team member reviews.
- Communicates between all departments to maintain awareness of maintenance needs and ensures timely response to internal requests.
- Works closely with fellow department heads to maintain smooth hotel operations.
- Recognizes potential safety hazards and security problems in the hotel and act upon each accordingly.
- Working knowledge of Federal and local regulations relating to OSHA and worker’s compensation to ensure compliance with OSHA, health regulations, and fire & safety laws
- Communicates clearly, both orally and in writing in the English language.
- Participates in the company Safety Program by conducting monthly Safety Training Awareness between all departments, including yearly Emergency Response training.
- Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions in mechanical or electrical systems and other equipment throughout the hotel.
- Maintain guest confidentiality.
- Knowledge, understanding, and adherence to Company Core Values and Mission Statement.
- Responsible for working in a safe and conscientious manner
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Trade license in associated field preferred.
- CPO certified preferred.
- Experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.
- Ability to read and understand proper procedures, including but not limited to understanding blueprints, schematic drawings, technical parts breakdown, equipment manuals, and pool chemicals
- Ability to perform average mathematical calculation.
- Must have the ability to identify and overcome a problem.
- Ability to work under high pressure situations and exercise good judgement.
- Ability to focus attention on details, speed and accuracy.
- Ability to apply time management skills, prioritize and organize work assignments.
- Ability to work independently and be a team player.
- Flexible working hours.
- 3-5 years maintenance experience with 2 years direct supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.
