The Biddeford Recreation Department is still accepting applications for Cub Care Counselors this school year! We have positions available for all ages and experience levels. The Cub Care Counselor is responsible for care and safety of participants in the after school program, including but not limited to: activity planning and implementation, facility preparation, and maintaining a safe environment. After school program hours operate from the end of school day until 5:30PM during the school year. Ideal candidates are available Monday – Friday, between 1:30pm – 5:30pm, with some shifts available from 3:00pm – 5:30pm. Preference is given to candidates who are available a minimum of 3 days per week, although we will consider applicants with other availability. We ask that applicants are adaptable to schedule changes due to school days off/half days, and cancellations.
Responsibilities
- Plan activities in accordance with curriculum objectives and program philosophy
- Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child
- Prepare weekly & monthly plans
- Maintain daily open communication with co-workers, supervisor, and parents
- Act in the general best safety interests of the child (i.e. report any suspected abuse, create documentation, and maintain confidentiality)
- Attend in-service training and staff meetings (if applicable)
- Provide an evaluation of the program with recommendations at its conclusion
- Maintain cleanliness of all facilities that the program uses for its operation
- Perform additional duties deemed necessary for the success and functionality of the program
- A willingness to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford's work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old, or 15 years old with a valid Workers Permit
- Experience working with children ages 5-12
- CPR/ First Aid Certified preferred
- Ability to demonstrate creativity, motivate children, and display a positive attitude
- Excellent role model
- Communicate effectively
- Ability to follow directions and finish tasks as assigned
- Show flexibility and act as a team player
