Job Overview
SDHC is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to facilitate volunteer activities that support SDHC’s conservation activities. This role will be performed remotely or in the office, with occasional field activities and weekend work. The desired start date is as soon as possible. Responsibilities will include:
- Develop volunteer program, maintain appropriate materials, and ensure coverage of this role.
- Screen volunteer calls and emails, onboard volunteers and interns, and schedule volunteers with staff.
- Serve as the point of contact for volunteer communication and recruit volunteers for necessary activities.
- Track volunteer participation, maintain volunteer records and liability waivers, and support volunteer retention efforts.
- Collaborate with staff to facilitate volunteer engagement and organizing larger group events, as needed.
- Coordinate volunteer supplies and safety preparation.
- Lead volunteers in field activities (e.g., invasive plant and trash removal).
- Conduct presentations or nature walks for neighboring residents.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Develop social media content and educational literature, maintain SDHC social media sites, and create and send SDHC quarterly newsletters.
- Maintain supply of outreach material (e.g., brochures, fliers, etc.).
- Assist with required outreach for preserves (e.g., annual meeting coordination and brochures).
- Perform as needed tabling events or classroom presentations.
- Support community partnerships and keep track of educational opportunities throughout the year.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Passion for SDHC’s mission and community engagement.
- Self-motivated and committed to program success.
- Experience with nonprofit organizations and education at some professional level.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work weekends
- Fluent in Spanish or other language is a plus.

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 12.0 – 24.0 per week
Work Location: Hybrid remote in San Diego, CA 92103
