The Arts at MIT seeks an intern for 4–8 hours per week ($18/hour) to join the communications team for the fall semester. Currently enrolled students from any accredited American college or university are encouraged to apply, although this internship is not for credit. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States and must be enrolled at a college or university throughout the internship. The internship takes place on MIT’s campus in Cambridge, MA; remote work is not possible.
Students pursuing a degree in communications, design, film/media studies, computer science, or a marketing-related field preferred. The intern will work closely with Leah Talatinian, Director of Communications, and Heidi Erickson, Senior Designer and Communications Manager, to advance communications for the Arts at MIT, including website content maintenance and publicity for events and programs presented by the MIT Office of the Arts.
Projects/tasks may include:
Website Content Management

Use WordPress CMS to implement web content updates; review published content to improve accuracy and consistency in formatting.

Use Adobe Photoshop to edit and optimize images for digital publication.

Use writing, critical thinking, and technical skills to implement SEO and AEO best practices and ADA & WCAG 2.2 compliance standards.

Evaluate and prioritize press clippings, extract quotes, summarize content, and update corresponding listings on the website and in Airtable.
Graphic Design and Content Creation

Use Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro templates to create content for communications according to the Arts at MIT brand system; may include print brochures, videos, and photos.

Use Google Slides, PowerPoint, and Keynote to update presentations.
Audience Outreach and Data Analysis

Research target audiences and manage related data stored in Airtable, Mailchimp, Excel, and Google Sheets.

Process engagement data from website traffic, email, and other sources.
