Litigation Legal Assistant / Paralegal – Plaintiff Medical Malpractice
Eugene, Oregon | Part-Time or Full-Time | Hybrid
Hamilton Law, a Eugene plaintiff-side law firm focused on medical malpractice and serious personal injury litigation, is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant or Paralegal to join our team.
We are a boutique litigation firm representing injured individuals in complex cases throughout Oregon. We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking an active role in supporting cases from intake through discovery, mediation, and trial.
The Position
This position can be structured anywhere from approximately 20 to 40 hours per week, depending on the candidate's experience and availability. The position is hybrid, with a combination of remote work and time in our Eugene office.
The position will primarily involve litigation support, including:
- Assisting attorneys with all phases of civil litigation;
- Preparing and filing pleadings and other court documents;
- Preparing and responding to discovery;
- Obtaining, organizing, and maintaining medical records and other case materials;
- Coordinating with clients, medical providers, expert witnesses, opposing counsel, and court personnel;
- Scheduling depositions, expert reviews, mediations, and other case-related matters;
- Preparing deposition, mediation, and trial materials;
- Managing litigation deadlines and case calendars;
- E-filing documents in Oregon state and federal courts; and
- Providing other substantive and administrative support as cases require.
Because our practice focuses heavily on medical malpractice, our cases tend to involve significant medical records, expert witnesses, complex factual issues, and substantial discovery. The successful candidate should be comfortable managing large amounts of information and maintaining careful attention to detail.
Qualifications
Prior experience working in a law firm or litigation environment is preferred, particularly experience with civil litigation. Experience with Oregon court procedures, e-filing, discovery, medical records, or plaintiff-side litigation is a plus.
We are also willing to consider candidates with less direct litigation experience who demonstrate excellent organizational skills, strong written communication, attention to detail, sound judgment, and an ability to learn quickly.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is highly organized and reliable;
- Pays close attention to details and deadlines;
- Communicates professionally with clients and others;
- Is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of assigned tasks;
- Can manage multiple cases and priorities at the same time;
- Has strong computer and document-management skills; and
- Works well in a small, collaborative office.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer competitive compensation based on experience and the number of hours worked.
Benefits include:
- Health benefits;
- 401(k) with employer matching;
- Three weeks of paid vacation;
- Paid holidays;
- Flexible part-time or full-time scheduling; and
- A hybrid work arrangement combining remote and in-office work.
