Overview
A prestigious boutique law firm located on Brickell Avenue is seeking an experienced Legal Staff Accountant to provide financial, administrative, and clerical support across the firm. This role involves managing all billing functions and client account analysis, as well as performing additional accounting and bookkeeping duties in line with established policies and procedures, by providing direct support to the Director of Operations. Primary core responsibilities:
- Manage the firm’s monthly legal billing cycle, including the preparation, review, revision, and finalization of pre-bills and client invoices, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Monitor and analyze Work-in-Progress, Accounts Receivable, trust balances, client cost, and third-party expenses to support collections, cash flow, and financial performance.
- Oversee accounts payable, vendor payments, expense allocations, and financial reconciliations while managing the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare comprehensive monthly financial reports for the Director of Operations, detailing accounts receivable status, work-in-progress, and clients’ trust balances.
- Maintain accurate financial records by reconciling accounts, maintaining the general ledger, and adhering to established accounting policies and internal controls.
- Safeguard confidential financial and client information by exercising the highest level of discretion and professionalism.
- Partner with attorneys and administrative staff to resolve billing inquiries, improve financial processes, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Provide cross-functional support to the firm’s administrative operations, contributing to a collaboration, client-focused environment while ensuring exceptional service standards.
Qualifications
- Strong general accounting skills, including knowledge of GAAP, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- or professional services billing, trust/IOLTA accounting, and matter-based cost tracking.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office (advanced Excel), and the ability to learn new financial systems. AI knowledge is a plus.
- Attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and strong organizational and time management abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with legal and administrative teams.
- High level of integrity, discretion, professionalism, accuracy, and respect for confidential client and financial information.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant experience in a legal or professional services environment is preferred.
- Ability to work on-site in Miami, FL, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Preferred Experience:
- and familiarity with legal billing, practice management, or accounting software.
- Knowledge of WIP management, electronic billing, trust accounting requirements, client cost tracking, KPI reporting, and workflow improvement.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive base salary of $80,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
