Legal Clerk Duties and Responsibilities
At the start of each workday, turn on the office lights, make coffee, and review your email, MyCase call log, and MyCase messages.
Maintain and update client binders as needed. If documents are missing, send a message to the client requesting the necessary information and enter the communication as billable time. Ensure all client binders remain organized in alphabetical order and break down old binders when appropriate.
Review and process discovery promptly. Be sure to calendar all discovery deadlines, including the due date to our office and the due date to opposing counsel.
Answer incoming phone calls and ensure every call is properly logged. Review case files and monitor court dockets regularly, entering docket reviews as billable time. Notify the Office Manager by email of any missing pleadings or documents that need to be obtained.
Create the weekly docket and review returns of service on a weekly basis. Complete all scanning and filing tasks, and when possible, begin daily filing at approximately 3:50 p.m.
Assist with overflow work and domestic drafting assignments as directed. Open all new client files within 12 hours of retention and create contracts for all new clients.
Ensure all time worked is accurately recorded throughout the day and entered into the billing system no later than each Friday.
Pay: $11.00 - $14.00 per hour
