We are seeking a highly qualified Dance Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience teaching various dance styles to a wide range of ages (walking to adult) and a demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive environment for students with special needs and disabilities. As an instructor you will not only teach technique but also foster self-confidence, joy, and creativity in a safe, supportive setting.Key Responsibilities
- Instruction: Teach, choreograph, and manage weekly classes for diverse age groups and skill levels, including specialized classes for children with special needs.
- Curriculum Adaptation: Adapt lesson plans and teaching methods to meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of all students, ensuring maximum participation.
- Special Needs Programming: Implement inclusive, adaptive dance techniques to ensure accessibility for students with varied intellectual and physical disabilities.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
- Communication: Provide regular, constructive feedback to students and maintain open, encouraging communication with parents/caregivers regarding progress.
- Performances: Choreograph and prepare inclusive routines for recitals, community showcases, or special events.
- Collaboration: Work with staff members, to tailor instruction as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Proven experience (3+ years preferred) in teaching dance to a wide variety of ages.
- Special Needs Experience: Demonstrated, hands-on experience working with children and/or adults with special needs in a professional or volunteer capacity (e.g., autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, physical disabilities). Preferred not required
- Dance Expertise: Proficient in multiple styles (e.g., Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Creative Movement, etc).
- Adaptive Skills: Ability to modify dance steps to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, or different sensory needs.
- Personality: Patient, high-energy, empathetic, and creative.
- Professionalism: Reliable, organized, and capable of working independently.
- Background: Must pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in Special Education, Dance/Movement Therapy, or related field.
- Experience with American Sign Language (ASL).
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
