The Specialty Machine Operator (SMO) is tasked with efficiently and competently operating a wide range of secondary production machines including:
o Lissmac deburring and edge rounding equipment
o Tube Drill
o Bandsaw and other saw equipment
o Bending equipment
o Insertion Press
o Pyramid and other roll-forming equipment
o Vibratory deburring equipment
o Tumble equipment
o Spot welding equipment
o CNC Equipment at beginning level
As part of their duties, Specialty Machine Operators will also be cross trained in at least one other department to create staffing flexibility in Production when the schedule demands. The Shift Manager will direct the Operators’ activities to ensure that jobs are distributed and completed as scheduled. The Shift Manager may also ask the Operators to assist other departments where staffing shortages may dictate. The Operator will then take directions from the relevant department supervisor.

The Specialty Machine Operator will be trained and evaluated by the Specialty Machine Department CMSI and will report directly to the Shift Manager.
The primary responsibility of the Specialty Machine Operator is to ensure they maintain the skills required to set up and produce quality products at rate for every assigned work center.
- Independently move to the next highest priority job in the Specialty Department
- Cross training to a Level I capability in at least one other department
- Cross training to safely fill in at any machine as assigned
- All personnel are expected to update job knowledge on an ongoing basis by identifying and participating in functionally related educational opportunities, reading professional publications, reporting key learnings to the management team, maintaining personal networks to the benefit of the company, and participating in professional organizations where indicated or requested.

High school diploma or equivalent
Forklift training certification preferred
Experience in the use of metal fabricating equipment typically found in a manufacturing environment.
