Busy manufacturing company, specializing in plating for the aerospace and aircraft overhaul industries, is looking for a Plating Technician to join their team in Sun Valley.
Summary: The Plating Technician performs controlled aerospace metal finishing and related special-processing operations in accordance with approved work instructions, customer purchase orders, drawings, specifications, process routings and procedures. The position ranges from trainee through senior technician based on demonstrated capability, independence, process knowledge, quality performance and ability to safely process increasingly complex aerospace hardware. Every technician is expected to protect customer product, follow the approved process exactly, accurately record direct labor to the correct STEELE work order and operation, maintain traceability, and immediately stop and escalate work whenever requirements or process conditions are unclear.
Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned plating and finishing operations only to approved planning, work instructions, specifications and process parameters.
- Review the traveler/work order before starting and verify part number, quantity, operation, specification/revision, masking requirements, required thickness and special instructions.
- Prepare parts for processing through approved cleaning, activation, blasting, masking, racking and fixturing methods.
- Set up and operate plating tanks and related equipment, including rectifiers, racks, fixtures and anodes, within authorized process parameters.
- For qualified technicians, determine or verify appropriate current density, amperage, voltage, plating time, anode placement and setup based on approved methods and part geometry.
- Perform precision plating on machined aerospace components while protecting critical dimensions, threads, bores, IDs/ODs, surfaces and non-plated areas.
- Monitor process conditions and immediately report abnormal tank, rectifier, adhesion, thickness, appearance, temperature, chemistry, equipment or product conditions.
- Perform required in-process checks and accurately document process data, lot information, measurements and traceability records.
- Accurately clock direct labor in STEELE against the correct work order and operation as work is performed; start, pause/stop and complete labor transactions in accordance with Dixon requirements.
- Protect customer hardware from damage, contamination, commingling, loss and unauthorized processing.
- Maintain clean, organized and safe work areas using 5S and good chemical-processing practices.
- Follow all PPE, chemical handling, hazardous-material, environmental, wastewater and safety requirements.
- Do not remove, alter, substitute or bypass approved process steps, specifications, tooling or inspection requirements without authorization.
- Segregate and report suspected nonconforming product; never knowingly move questionable product forward without Quality disposition.
- Support first-pass yield, on-time delivery, reduced rework/scrap, cycle-time improvement and continuous-improvement activities.
- Participate in training, cross-training and qualification activities; senior technicians are expected to mentor developing technicians and reinforce standard work.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent practical experience preferred.
- Ability to follow detailed written work instructions, travelers, safety rules and controlled manufacturing procedures.
- Ability to use basic measuring tools and learn plating-thickness measurement methods appropriate to assigned work.
- Ability to perform basic shop math and, at higher technician levels, calculate or apply surface-area/current-density relationships and process times.
- Ability to work safely around chemicals, plating tanks, electrical equipment, ovens, blasting equipment and production machinery.
- Aerospace plating, Nadcap special-processing, blueprint/specification reading, masking, racking, anode fabrication and troubleshooting experience are progressively expected at Technician II and Senior levels.
- Reliable attendance, strong workmanship, integrity, teamwork and willingness to accurately document work are required at every level.
Pay: $20.00 - $37.00 per hour
