Rheumatology Care Associates (RCA) is a busy, patient-centered rheumatology group dedicated to providing advanced, compassionate care for individuals with autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Sonographer to join our team and support high-quality clinical imaging in an outpatient specialty setting.
Position Summary
The Contracted/Part-Time Medical Sonographer will perform musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations to support our rheumatology providers in patient evaluation and treatment planning. The role involves acquiring high-quality ultrasound images and providing preliminary technical impressions (readings), without offering medical diagnoses. The sonographer will not perform injections.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations in accordance with practice protocols.
- Prepare and position patients to obtain optimal imaging results.
- Produce clear, accurate, and well-labeled ultrasound images for physician review.
- Provide technical image interpretations (preliminary readings) to assist rheumatology providers—diagnosis is strictly made by the physician.
- Document findings accurately in eClinicalWorks (ECW) and ensure timely upload of imaging studies.
- Maintain and operate ultrasound equipment, ensuring it remains in optimal working condition.
- Follow infection-control, safety, and quality-assurance guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, medical assistants, and administrative staff to support clinical workflow.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
- ARDMS certification in musculoskeletal sonography (RMSKS) or relevant specialty, or eligibility to obtain certification within a defined timeframe.
- Minimum 1 year of clinical ultrasound experience; musculoskeletal experience strongly preferred.
- Preferred:
- Experience in a rheumatology or orthopedic outpatient setting.
- Familiarity with MSK imaging protocols and rheumatologic disease patterns (non-diagnostic).
