We are seeking passionate and engaging educators to serve as Summer Literacy Enrichment Teachers for a literacy-centered summer enrichment initiative supporting elementary students in partnership with Charles County Public Schools.
This program is designed for rising 1st–5th-grade students and focuses on literacy development through engaging, collaborative, and movement-based learning experiences aligned to the Science of Reading and current literacy research. Teachers will lead small-group and whole-group instruction while creating a safe, structured, and highly engaging classroom environment.
This is a 12-day summer enrichment initiative designed for educators seeking meaningful summer employment in a structured and supportive educational environment. This is an excellent opportunity for educators who are passionate about literacy, student engagement, and helping students maintain academic momentum during the summer months.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead literacy-centered enrichment instruction for elementary students
- Facilitate reading, writing, vocabulary, speaking, and comprehension activities
- Manage classrooms of approximately 15–20 students
- Deliver engaging whole-group and small-group instruction
- Support collaborative learning, movement activities, and enrichment experiences
- Monitor student participation and learning progress
- Conduct baseline and progress-monitoring activities
- Maintain accurate attendance and student documentation
- Foster a positive, structured, and student-centered classroom culture
- Collaborate with instructional staff, support staff, and site leadership
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active teaching certification/licensure for Elementary Education (Grades 1–5)
- Minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience in Grades 1–5
- Demonstrated experience teaching reading and literacy instruction
- Ability to engage students in a fun, enrichment-focused summer learning environment
- Credential Requirements: Candidates must possess and verify a valid, active state educator certificate or professional teaching credentials.
Work Locations
Instructional staff will be assigned to one of the following sites:
- Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School
- J.P. Ryon Elementary School
Compliance Requirements
Selected candidates must complete all required district and state compliance procedures before employment, including:
- Fingerprinting
- Background screening
- Employment verification
- Child safety compliance documentation
Program staff will work Monday–Thursday during July 2026 with daytime schedules approximately between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, depending on position assignment.
