OVERVIEW
Are you a hands-on leader who knows how to motivate a team, hold people accountable, and keep production moving without sacrificing quality? Market Speed Logistics is looking for an experienced and proactive Assembly Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of our Assembly Department.
The Assembly Supervisor is a key member of our operations team and is responsible for running the production floor of the Assembly Department. This includes ensuring the department is properly staffed, assigning employees to work areas, communicating daily priorities, monitoring production throughout the shift, and making adjustments as needed to ensure production goals and customer requirements are met.
Our Assembly Department handles a variety of finished goods projects including gift set assembly, kitting, relabeling, rework, tester conversions, and other value-added services for multiple clients. Because many of our assembly processes are designed to be learned quickly, the department utilizes a combination of core employees and temporary labor. The Assembly Supervisor must be able to objectively evaluate employee performance, identify the right people for the right tasks, address performance concerns, and ensure the department maintains the appropriate headcount to meet daily production needs.
This role requires a leader who can push for productivity while understanding that speed cannot come at the expense of quality. The Assembly Supervisor is responsible for ensuring quality expectations are clearly communicated and consistently followed, partnering closely with Quality Control when issues arise, and reinforcing that our goal is to produce quality work and not simply complete work quickly.
The Assembly Supervisor reports directly to the Assembly Manager and works closely with the Manager to execute the production plan, provide input on staffing and workflow, and identify opportunities to improve overall department performance. The ideal candidate is confident, fair, objective, hands-on, and comfortable making decisions on the floor while maintaining a professional and respectful work environment.
WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT
The Assembly Supervisor is one of the key people responsible for turning the department's production plan into successful daily execution. While the Assembly Manager is responsible for communicating with the clients, budgeting, quoting and scheduling work, the Supervisor owns what happens on the floor by ensuring the right people are in place, work is progressing as planned, quality standards are being met, and problems are addressed before they impact the client.
This position requires a leader who can balance productivity, quality, staffing, and employee performance. The right person will understand that strong production results come from a well-managed team, clear expectations, effective communication, and consistent accountability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the day-to-day operation of the Assembly floor, ensuring the department is appropriately staffed, organized, and progressing according to the production plan.
- Work closely with the Assembly Manager to understand production priorities, provide input on staffing and workflow, and ensure scheduled work is successfully executed.
- Evaluate daily staffing needs and assign employees to projects based on production requirements, employee capability, performance, and efficiency.
- Supervise, coach, train, and objectively evaluate Assembly Leads, Assemblers, and temporary employees, holding team members accountable for attendance, productivity, quality, and workplace expectations.
- Work with management and the staffing agency to address attendance, performance, and staffing concerns and make recommendations regarding temporary employees as appropriate.
- Maintain a flexible and cross-trained workforce capable of moving between assembly projects and workstations with minimal disruption to production.
- Communicate daily production goals, priorities, job requirements, quality expectations, and workflow changes clearly to the Assembly team.
- Monitor production throughout the shift and proactively address staffing gaps, delays, workflow issues, or other obstacles that may prevent the department from achieving its goals.
- Drive productivity and efficiency while maintaining established quality standards, ensuring employees understand that production speed should never come at the expense of accuracy or quality.
- Ensure products are assembled, packaged, labeled, and reworked according to client specifications, work instructions, SOPs, and GMP requirements, partnering with Quality Control to address concerns as needed.
- Oversee the safe operation, care, and basic maintenance of department equipment and ensure employees are properly trained before operating equipment.
- Maintain accountability for department materials, finished goods, packaging supplies, and equipment, communicating replenishment or service needs to management.
- Provide accurate daily reporting on staffing, productivity, quality, completed and outstanding work, and issues requiring management attention. Ensure the department is prepared for the following shift.
- Identify recurring staffing, production, quality, or workflow issues and recommend practical solutions and continuous improvement opportunities to management.
- Communicate effectively with Quality Control, Receiving, Fulfillment, Inventory, and other departments to support overall operational success.
- Serve as a professional role model and help maintain a culture of accountability, teamwork, respect, safety, and high performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- 5+ years of experience in a warehouse, 3PL, or production environment, with significant exposure to assembly, kitting, packaging or value added services.
- Previous experience with GMP-regulated or quality-sensitive products.
- Proven supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop employees at multiple levels.
- Punctual, dedicated, energetic and professional manner.
- Strong judgment and the ability to objectively evaluate employee performance and make staffing recommendations based on business needs and performance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage both core employees and temporary labor in a fast-paced production environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards while achieving production goals.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability and willingness to work alongside the team when necessary.
- Solid understanding of production processes, including assembly equipment operation (labelers, inkjets, coders, shrink wrap systems, conveyors, etc.).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams, and the ability to learn company-specific systems and production tracking tools.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse teams.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make sound decisions.
- Ability to handle challenging situations tactfully while maintaining professionalism.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and perform warehouse/production tasks as required.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- 3PL Central/Extensiv Software
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Experience working with temporary staffing agencies and managing temporary labor.
- Experience operating or overseeing packaging, labeling, shrink-wrapping, coding, conveyor, or similar production equipment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- This is a full-time position. Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexibility to work extended hours, overtime, and occasional weekends based on business needs. Flexibility is especially important during our peak season of September 1st through December 15th.
- This position is based at our facility in Cranbury, NJ and requires regular presence on the warehouse/production floor.
- This role requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
- Warehouse/production setting requiring standing, bending, lifting, and operating equipment. Candidates must comply with OSHA, GMP, and company safety and operational requirements.
