Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Controller to lead the accounting operations of our automotive dealership, which offers new and used vehicles. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance while providing strategic financial guidance to dealership leadership. The ideal candidate combines strong dealership accounting expertise with exceptional leadership, analytical, and organizational skills to ensure accurate financial reporting and support long-term business growth.
As a key member of the leadership team, the Controller will work closely with ownership and management to drive operational excellence, improve financial performance, and maintain the highest standards of accountability and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct all daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
- Prepare, analyze, and present financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics to dealership leadership.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies, manufacturer requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Oversee dealership accounting schedules, account reconciliations, deal posting, vehicle titling, and related accounting processes.
- Monitor cash flow, floorplan financing, inventory, operating expenses, and overall dealership profitability.
- Partner with the General Manager and ownership to support budgeting, strategic planning, and business decision-making.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team by promoting accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
- Coordinate internal and external audits while preparing financial documentation for lenders, manufacturers, and other business partners.
- Ensure all tax filings, licensing requirements, and financial reporting deadlines are completed accurately and on time.
- Evaluate existing accounting procedures and recommend process improvements that increase efficiency and strengthen financial controls.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Automotive Dealership Controller, Assistant Controller, Office Manager, or Senior Accountant with progressive leadership responsibilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of dealership accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control procedures.
- Experience working with dealership management systems (Reynolds & Reynolds preferred; CDK, Dealertrack, Tekion, or similar platforms considered).
- Strong understanding of financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all departments.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential financial information.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
