NOTICE: YOU MUST HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, DRIVER'S LICENSE, AND BE AT LEAST 18 TO WORK THIS JOB.
We are looking to hire personal care attendants (PCA). If hired, you will be working out of our home. Below is some basic information on what the job(s) entails; PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY before choosing to apply.
There are multiple shifts that we have daily. We are looking to fill all shifts. Shifts are 5 hours in length and we have three of them daily:
- 7:00am to 11:00am
- 1:00pm to 6:00pm
- 6:00pm to 11:00pm
You have the opportunity to work any combination of these shifts throughout the week based on current availability. Ideally, we and Extended Hearts Care Agency want to have two PCAs per shift. We are currently most looking for new hires willing to work the morning and/or evening shifts. If you live in Beavercreek or Fairborn or attend Wright State University, that is a plus!
Tasks that we need help with are: transferring, showering, dressing, toileting, cooking, feeding, grooming, cleaning, organizing, transportation for appointments and work, shopping, occasional trips out of town, etc.
Another important aspect of the job is helping us care for our retired service dog. We have an extremely friendly and well-behaved black lab named Murdock. He's older now (14) but he still acts like a puppy sometimes. We'll need you to help feed and toilet (including picking up poop) him (even in the dead of winter!) as well as brushing occasionally. If you are uncomfortable with large, black dogs, or caring for large black dogs, in any way, this job is not for you.
Contingent upon passing a background check, getting first aid and CPR certifications, and an interview, you'll be hired through Extended Hearts, who will explain pay rate and shift assignments.
If we ourselves do not have enough open shifts for you, Extended Hearts may have other clients you may mesh with that have hours available.
We require all of our PCAs to be physically able to do all of the shifts even if they are not scheduled for a certain shift (meaning they can lift us and are okay with performing all of the duties). The reason for this is, inevitably, we will need to find a substitute for a PCA who is sick or on vacation and we do not want to be limited in who we can ask. Do not let the lifting part scare you too much, we both only weigh around 115 lbs and have had many "small" PCAs have lifted us just fine. Extended Hearts can provide training on how to lift safely.
Being a PCA is a unique job to have and may take a while to get the routine down, but it will be a fun and rewarding job if you let it be. Dylan has been managing PCAs for 28 years and Allison has 20 years under her belt, so you are in good hands!
If you are still interested in the position, We'd all like to set up an interview with you. If you do get an interview scheduled and you change your mind, at least let us know that you're not coming. We've had numerous no-shows in the past and it's quite aggravating.
Finally, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
