We're hiring our first producer at Broadway Insurance — and I wanted to write this one myself.
I started Broadway Insurance Services as a fully virtual agency, and it's stayed that way on purpose. Our team works from home, I work from mine, and it's been a good way to build — no commute, no fluorescent lights, no "be at your desk by 8." Just good work for good clients. Now we're ready to bring on a producer, and I'd rather find the right person than fill a seat fast.
Here's the honest pitch:
We're a little niched, and we like it that way. Our bread and butter is landlord (1-4 unit) and apartment building coverage, commercial property, and we round it out with commercial P&C and personal home/auto. Here's the interesting part: about 95% of our book is in Los Angeles, CA — and we're well known there. We've built a strong marketing engine, and new business leads come in daily. You won't be starting from a cold phone and an empty pipeline.
But here's the thing: that's the floor, not the ceiling. We're looking for someone who isn't content to work the leads we hand them. We want a producer who's hungry enough to go build their own — to think outside the box, get out there, develop real relationships, and produce above and beyond what's already coming in. If "good enough" is comfortable for you, this probably isn't your role. If you read "the leads are already flowing" and immediately thought "great, now let me go double it" — keep reading.
What the role looks like:
- 1099 / independent — you run your own schedule, work from wherever you are
- Agency-provided leads from a marketing engine that's already working, plus the freedom and upside to build your own book
- Commission-based with renewals, so the work you put in keeps paying you
- A real support system — a strong in-house CSR department on the backend that's financially incentivized to cross-sell and retain your clients, so the book you build keeps growing and stays put while you focus on writing business
- We'll help the right person get licensed and appointed, including getting you set up in California (where most of the business lives) and any other states you need
whom I'm looking for:
- Tech-savvy — comfortable living in a fully digital, cloud-based agency. You don't need to be an IT person, but you should pick up new tools quickly and not be afraid of software
- Excellent written communication — strong email and writing etiquette matters to me. A lot of our client relationships happen in writing, and how you show up in an inbox is how you show up to our clients
- A self-starter who develops relationships — someone who goes and creates opportunity, not just waits for it
- Comfortable learning a new market — most of our clients are in Los Angeles, so being curious and adaptable about a city you may not know is a real plus
- Ohio-based, ideally — I'm in Northeast Ohio (Akron area), and there's a real chance we open an office in Cuyahoga Falls within the year, so being local means you could be part of that as we grow
- Licensed producer — or close to it, and motivated to finish
- Experience is welcome, but honestly, hungry beats tenured. If you're coachable, organized, and you actually like talking to people, let's talk.
If you've been stuck somewhere with mandatory office days, office fees, and leads that go nowhere — this is the opposite of that.
Here's how to apply: don't just send a resume. Send me a message and tell me two things — why you think you'd be a good fit for a role like this, and where you want to be in the next few years. I read every one, and that's what'll get my attention.
