DEFINITION:
Under direction of the Director of Child nutrition to provide technical direction to Child Nutrition Managers of all district schools, and assists with all phases of management of the district food service programs, and performs work related duties as required.
- Organizes and supervises varied activities of the Child Nutrition Department
- This would include computerized and manual menu planning that meet the nutritional requirements for state, federal, and local laws and regulations, and also free-reduced price meals for needy students
- Assists in processing meal applications for eligible students
- Analyzes food service operations at school sites for cost effectiveness, necessary changes in food preparation, implement improvements in service, menus, equipment and facilities
- Assures proper utilization and care of equipment and supplies
- Assists in the development and implementation of computer programs, assists in coordinating all catered events
- Keeps a good working relationship with both food service personnel and school administrators
- Assists in testing and interviewing new applicants for food service positions
- Assists in making adjustments in staff time according to workload and approving extra or overtime for the food service staff when required
- Develops and reviews work schedules and production standards for food service staff
- Makes recommendations in food service personnel transactions, changes in hours, transfers and disciplinary actions including input on evaluations or employee work record
- Participates/conducts monthly managers meetings and staff workshops
- Also represents the Child Nutrition Department at meetings of district personnel, student groups, advisory councils, community representatives, parents and the general public in order to obtain and provide information and discuss problems, regulations, procedures, standard complaints, plan improvements and other matters concerning school food service programs
- Prepares required reports on food service operations
- Performs related duties as assigned
- May assume responsibilities for the food service program in the absence of the Director of Child Nutrition.

Education:
Bachelors Degree from a recognized college with emphasis in foods, nutnt1on, business administration, or related field. Certification from the Ame1ican School Food Service Foundation as a Food Service Specialist or above is desirable.
Experienc1.::
Three (3) years of increasing responsible supervision experience. Two (2) years experience in a school food service operation, hospital food service, instructional or contract food service programs or restaurant management.
Substitution:
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis, with a minimum education requirement of at least an Associates' Degree.
