Chief Operating Officer – Personal Injury Law Firm
Location: New Jersey
Job Type: Full-time, W-2
Base Salary: $175,000–$250,000
Target Total Compensation: $250,000–$450,000
A successful, high-volume, multi-office New Jersey personal injury law firm is seeking a proven Chief Operating Officer to help scale the business from more than $10 million to a $25 million enterprise.
This is a true executive operating role—not a Firm Administrator, Office Manager, Human Resources Director or first-time COO opportunity.
The COO will take full ownership of the firm’s nonlegal operations, financial performance, people, systems and accountability. The primary objective is to build a scalable organization that operates effectively without requiring the owner’s daily involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the operating plan required to reach $25 million.
- Own budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, expenses and profitability.
- Build executive dashboards and track firm-wide performance metrics.
- Lead, develop and hold accountable a staff of more than 20 employees.
- Strengthen the management structure across multiple offices.
- Improve personal injury intake, conversion, case flow and client service.
- Optimize MyCase, automation, reporting and data integrity.
- Standardize workflows across domestic and bilingual offshore teams.
- Identify operational bottlenecks, financial leakage and performance issues.
- Create systems that remove routine administrative responsibilities from the owner.
- Manage vendors, technology, staffing plans and major operational initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive operational or business leadership experience.
- 5+ years in a COO, President, Executive Director, Managing Director, Vice President of Operations or comparable executive role.
- Proven success scaling a founder-led, multi-office or high-volume organization.
- Direct responsibility for financial performance, budgets, forecasting and KPIs.
- Experience leading teams of at least 20 employees through managers or department heads.
- Demonstrated success implementing systems, improving accountability and producing measurable business results.
- Strong financial judgment, executive presence and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Personal injury law firm experience is strongly preferred. Exceptional executives from high-volume legal, healthcare, insurance, claims, revenue-cycle or professional-services organizations will also be considered.
Compensation
The position offers a base salary of $175,000–$250,000, based on experience, plus performance-based incentive compensation.
Target total annual compensation is $250,000–$450,000.
