Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Grapple Truck Operator to join our construction and materials handling team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating grapple trucks equipped with hydraulic cranes and load handling attachments to efficiently move, load, and unload heavy materials on construction sites, warehouses, and shipping yards. This role requires a strong understanding of crane operation, safety regulations, and materials handling procedures to ensure safe and productive operations. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of mechanical knowledge, construction experience, and a commitment to safety standards to support our project goals.
Duties
- Operate grapple trucks with hydraulic cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials in compliance with load securing rigging methods and safety protocols.
- Perform routine inspections of crane equipment, hydraulics, lifting gear, and safety devices to ensure operational readiness.
- Follow load handling procedures in crane operations to prevent accidents and damage to materials or equipment.
- Secure loads using appropriate rigging techniques, ensuring stability during transit and placement.
- Adhere to construction workplace safety regulations and OSHA safety standards during all operations.
- Coordinate with site supervisors, forklift operators, excavator operators, and other heavy equipment operators for seamless material movement.
- Maintain accurate records of load movements, equipment inspections, and safety checks.
- Assist in shipping & receiving activities by loading or unloading materials using boom trucks or forklifts as needed.
- Implement proper safety equipment usage at all times to protect personnel and equipment.
- Support warehouse operations by managing materials handling tasks efficiently within the construction or shipping environment.
Skills
- Extensive mechanical knowledge related to hydraulic systems, cranes, forklifts, backhoes, excavators, and boom trucks.
- Proven experience in commercial driving with valid licenses for operating heavy machinery.
- Strong understanding of load handling procedures in crane operations and rigging techniques.
- Familiarity with overhead cranes, lifting equipment, and material handling equipment operation.
- Knowledge of construction site safety regulations and OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to perform crane operation tasks safely while adhering to safety protocol guidelines.
- Experience in construction workplace safety practices including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Skilled in materials handling within warehouse or shipping & receiving environments.
- Competence in hydraulics maintenance basics and heavy equipment troubleshooting.
- Prior construction experience involving crane operation or heavy machinery is highly desirable.
- Ability to work effectively in physically demanding environments with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members across various operational functions.
