Bright Beginnings Daycare & Preschool is seeking a friendly, dependable, and experienced full-time cook to prepare nutritious meals and snacks for the children in our care.
The ideal candidate will be organized, safety-conscious, creative, and comfortable working in the fast-paced environment of a childcare center.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks that meet Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements.
- Assist the director with preparing monthly menus.
- Review weekly meal rosters and calculate appropriate serving sizes.
- Maintain accurate records of each child’s food allergies and dietary restrictions.
- Clearly communicate allergy and dietary information to classroom staff with each food delivery.
- Follow proper procedures for food storage, preparation, handling, and sanitation.
- Keep the kitchen, appliances, equipment, and food-preparation areas clean and sanitary.
- Complete weekly inventories of food, kitchen supplies, and other items needed for ordering.
- Safely operate kitchen equipment and properly use cleaning products.
- Receive, lift, and store food and supply deliveries.
- Communicate professionally and pleasantly with staff, children, families, and CACFP personnel.
- Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, students, and parents.
- Complete light office duties as assigned by the director or owner.
- Occasionally assist in classrooms during staff lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, or other times of need.
- Remain flexible and adaptable to the daily operational needs of the childcare center.
- Complete required annual professional-development training.
Qualifications
- Previous cooking or food-service experience is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to calculate serving sizes, follow measurements, and complete basic measurement conversions.
- Working knowledge of kitchen equipment, appliances, food-safety practices, and cleaning supplies.
- Ability to safely work around stoves, hot surfaces, and cleaning products.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift and store food and supply deliveries.
- Ability to obtain ServSafe certification within 60 days of employment.
- Ability to obtain all clearances and meet Pennsylvania Department of Human Services requirements for employment in a childcare center.
