JOB SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist/EHS Administrator serves as a key business partner to plant leadership and employees by supporting all aspects of Human Resources in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits administration, leave management, Workers’ Compensation administration, compliance, HR systems administration, training coordination, workforce planning, and HR process improvement. The Human Resources Generalist/EHS Administrator also provides administrative support for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs through training coordination, regulatory recordkeeping, and compliance documentation. This position helps drive employee engagement, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness while ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead full-cycle recruitment activities for hourly and salaried positions, including sourcing, interviewing, onboarding, and orientation.
- Coordinate staffing activities with hiring managers and temporary staffing agencies to meet workforce requirements.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and leaders on HR policies, procedures, and employment-related matters.
- Conduct internal investigations and provide recommendations regarding employee relations issues.
- Support performance management, corrective actions, disciplinary processes, and terminations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, personnel files, and HR documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies.
- Maintain HRIS data integrity and process employee status changes, organizational updates, and personnel transactions.
- Administer employee benefits programs and serve as a liaison between employees and benefit providers.
- Coordinate leave administration, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, Accident & Sickness, Workers’ Compensation, and other protected leaves.
- Administer Workers’ Compensation claims, including incident reporting, claim coordination, return-to-work activities, and communication with employees, supervisors, medical providers, and insurance carriers.
- Coordinate return-to-work and transitional duty programs to support employee recovery and business continuity.
- Support payroll administration activities for hourly employees.
- Coordinate company-required drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Assist in identifying training needs and coordinating employee development initiatives.
- Facilitate and track employee, supervisor, management, and EHS training programs.
- Support succession planning and workforce development initiatives.
- Generate and analyze HR metrics and reports, including headcount, turnover, absenteeism, recruiting effectiveness, and workforce trends.
- Support compensation administration, including merit planning and incentive programs.
- Support EHS administrative activities, including maintaining training records, tracking certifications, coordinating required documentation, supporting audits and inspections, and assisting with compliance reporting.
- Coordinate and maintain EHS-related employee records, including medical surveillance, hearing conservation, respirator fit testing, and other regulatory documentation as required.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance HR processes and service delivery.
- Review and respond to unemployment claims and employment verification requests.
- Support employee engagement, recognition, and culture-building initiatives.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with increasing levels of responsibility strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting hourly and salaried employee populations.
- 3+ years in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with employee relations, talent acquisition, leave administration, benefits, compensation, Workers’ Compensation, coaching and development, and HR compliance.
- Experience supporting EHS administrative processes, regulatory recordkeeping, training coordination, or compliance documentation preferred.
REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Working knowledge of Workers’ Compensation administration, return-to-work programs, OSHA recordkeeping requirements, and manufacturing safety programs preferred.
- Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently without onsite
- Ability to drive plant support, continuous improvement activities, employee recognition, etc.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, reporting, and data analysis.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle highly confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to operate standard office equipment.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to move throughout office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to support multiple shifts and work flexible hours as business needs require.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Combination of office and manufacturing plant environment.
- Regular exposure to a manufacturing setting, including noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) required when in production areas.
- Fast-paced environment requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
