PUBLIC WORKS TECHNICIAN
The Public Works Technician is dedicated to serving the community through hands-on maintenance and operations. This position involves performing a wide variety of manual labor and technical tasks related to public infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, parks, and municipal facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform manual labor activities, including shoveling, raking, and applying de-icing
materials
- Conduct routine and emergency street maintenance such as pothole repair, crack sealing, and signage replacement
- Mow, clean, and remove debris from city property, parks, and public spaces
- Inspect and maintain playgrounds and playground equipment
- Maintain and operate drainage ditches and related infrastructure
- Perform basic maintenance on city buildings and facilities
- Safely operate various types of equipment such as dump trucks, flatbeds, zero-turn mowers, tractors, asphalt rollers, crack sealers, and other related tools and machinery
- Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours response
- Be available for emergency call-backs as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- At least 6 months of experience working with heavy equipment and construction materials
- Valid Texas Class B CDL or ability to obtain (preferred)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with methods, tools, and procedures used in street, infrastructure, and facility maintenance
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures
- Capable of performing physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, and operating machinery for extended periods
