Overview
We're looking for a skilled and passionate Head Roaster to lead our coffee roasting operations. This role is the heartbeat of our production floor - you'll oversee daily roasting, develop and refine roast profiles, and take ownership of our green coffee inventory from sourcing receipt to production-ready prep. Beyond production, you'll work alongside our owner - a certified Q Grader - to evaluate and select the microlots we bring in, helping shape the character of our entire offering. You'll work closely with one other roaster and our production staff, setting the standard for quality and consistency in every batch we put out.
Responsibilities
- Develop, refine, and document roast profiles to achieve target flavor characteristics and batch-to-batch consistency
- Perform sample roasting and participate in grading and cupping sessions alongside our Q Grader owner to evaluate and select microlots
- Operate and manage daily roasting schedules, coordinating with production staff to meet output goals
- Lead green coffee receiving, organization, and inventory management - tracking stock levels, prepping orders, and maintaining accurate records
- Conduct or facilitate cupping sessions for quality control, lot evaluation, and ongoing profile development
- Train and mentor one additional roaster, fostering a culture of craft and continuous improvement
- Maintain and perform basic troubleshooting on roasting equipment; communicate with vendors or technicians for larger repairs
- Uphold food safety and sanitation standards appropriate to a production roasting environment
- Collaborate with the broader team on packaging, fulfillment coordination, and production planning
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on roasting experience is strongly preferred (whether in a production or specialty cafe roasting context)
- Experience with cupping and sensory evaluation is a strong plus; we're happy to develop this skill in the right candidate
- Background in production or manufacturing environments is a bonus
- Strong organizational skills - this role involves meaningful inventory and logistics responsibility, not just time behind the drum
- A team-first attitude with the ability to lead by example in a small, collaborative crew
- Passion for coffee quality and a genuine curiosity about the craft
Perks & Opportunities
- All employees are sponsored to attend SCA World of Coffee each year - one of the premier events in the specialty coffee industry
- Select team members receive invitations to travel with our owner to the farms we source from, with past trips including visits to producers in Costa Rica and Panama
Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Employee discount
- Paid sick time
- Paid time off
Work Location: In person
