Upscale Restaurant Omaha, NE Full-Time
Starting salary $65,000/year
An established, well-regarded Omaha restaurant is hiring a Sous Chef. We serve modern, seasonally driven cuisine built around local sourcing. This is a confidential search, and applications will be handled discreetly through Indeed.
About the role
As Sous Chef, you are the Executive Chef's right hand and a leader on the line. You run service, hold the standard on every plate, and develop the team behind you. You will help shape menus that change with the seasons and the best of what local farms and producers bring in.
What you'll do
- Lead the kitchen during service — expedite, run stations, and keep quality and timing tight from first cover to last.
- Partner with the Executive Chef on menu development, seasonal specials, and recipe execution.
- Manage prep, station setup, and consistency so every dish meets our standard.
- Train, coach, and schedule back-of-house team members; help build a kitchen people want to work in.
- Own food cost, portioning, and waste; help with ordering, receiving, and inventory.
- Uphold food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards at all times.
- Step in on the line wherever needed — lead from the station, not just the pass.
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of progressive kitchen experience, including a lead or sous role in an upscale, scratch-cooking, or farm-to-table kitchen.
- Strong fundamentals across stations and confidence running a busy service.
- A feel for seasonal, ingredient-driven cooking and local sourcing.
- Proven ability to lead, teach, and keep a team calm and organized under pressure.
- Working knowledge of food cost, ordering, and inventory basics.
- ServSafe or equivalent food-safety certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Reliable, accountable, and steady — someone the line trusts.
Nice to have
- Culinary degree or formal training.
- Experience with menu writing and costing.
- Relationships with local farms, producers, or purveyors.
What we offer
- Starting salary of $65,000/year, commensurate with experience.
- A creative, seasonally changing menu and a real voice in the kitchen.
- A stable, respected restaurant with an established following.
- Room to grow into greater responsibility over time.
