Title: Special Education Paraprofessional
Reports to: Director of Student Services, Principal, supervising teacher(s)
Compensation: $18 per hour for Paraprofessional Certification (only)
$20 per hour for Substitute Teacher Certification
$22 per hour for Teacher Certification

Job Summary:
The position of Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Aide) is a classified position limited to the annual student attendance days plus any professional development (training) days as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent. The Paraprofessional is to assist in the learning process in assigned areas of study, to perform a variety of supportive tasks for students and instructional personnel to perform related work as required.
Qualifications:
1. Valid Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator’s License
or
2. Valid Illinois State Board of Education Substitute Teaching Certificate
or
3. Valid Illinois State Board of Education Paraprofessional License
General Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist students in the learning process.

Provide supervision before, after school and during student lunch/recess periods.

Provide supervision on the bus.

Provide supervision for afterschool programs.

Trained in MENTA/CPI (provided by the District)

Work with students individually or in small groups, as directed by the supervising teacher.

Provide support and input in selecting activities appropriate to the abilities, needs, and interests of the students.

Assist in maintaining the classroom in a functional, attractive, and orderly environment.

Assist the teacher in complying with IEP requirements and objectives.

Support teacher in data collection and documentation.

Facilitate interventions and collect intervention data.

Reinforce behavioral expectations as directed by the classroom teacher.

Manage discipline problems in accordance with administrative regulations, school board policies, and legal requirements.

May include hygiene assistance.

Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Perform the physical tasks necessary to monitor, supervise and physically assist students throughout the school day during a variety of instructional activities. Must be able to function effectively in an active, loud environment. Must be able to adapt to changes in the work environment as circumstances require. Please note: you may be required to pick up 25lbs or more.
The paraprofessional position is a nine (9) month classified (at-will) position. The numbers of actual hours to be worked will include the actual number of scheduled student-attendance hours plus any assigned extra duties and training/professional development hours.
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by an administrator.
