Position Overview:
We are seeking a Welder to assist in the fabrication and erection of structural steel for commercial construction projects. This role works under the guidance of a Lead Welder/Fabricator to ensure high-quality welding, assembly, and installation of steel structures. The ideal candidate will have basic welding skills, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and grow in the trade.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Lead in fabricating and assembling structural steel components.
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fitting tasks as directed.
- Help with material handling, including loading/unloading steel and positioning components for welding and installation.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication.
- Assist with on-site steel erection, including bolting, rigging, and welding connections.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in both shop and field environments.
- Follow all safety protocols, including PPE usage and adherence to OSHA standards.
- Support the crew with various tasks to keep workflow efficient.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Basic welding skills (MIG, Stick, or Flux Core preferred) – certifications are a plus.
- Knowledge of steel fabrication tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and welding symbols.
- Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and working in various conditions (heights, outdoors, etc.).
- Willingness to learn and take direction from senior welders and supervisors.
- Strong work ethic, teamwork mentality, and reliability.
- Experience in construction, structural steel, or metalworking is a plus.
- Must have reliable transportation and be punctual.
Work Environment & Conditions:
- Work performed in both fabrication shop and construction site settings.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, heights, and physically demanding tasks.
- Use of welding equipment, torches, grinders, and rigging equipment.
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage based on experience, with opportunities for growth and advancement.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 60.0 per week
