OPERATIONS MANAGER - Moving, Storage & Logistics Operations

Job Summary
The Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in the success of our Reno operation. This position oversees daily activities across dispatch, warehouse operations, drivers and moving crews, fleet coordination, safety, service quality, and workforce management.
Working closely with the Warehouse Manager and other department leaders, the Operations Manager ensures that people, equipment, and resources are effectively coordinated to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality service. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who understands the moving and storage industry, communicates effectively, solves problems quickly, and can lead a fast-paced operation through changing priorities and seasonal demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Operational Leadership
- Partner with the Warehouse Manager to establish daily and weekly operational priorities based on scheduled work, available capacity, staffing, equipment, and customer commitments.
- Communicate available capacity, scheduling constraints, and potential service concerns to the Sales and Customer Service teams.
- Oversee daily dispatch activities and ensure that local and UniGroup/UVL long-haul assignments are properly scheduled, documented, and prepared.
- Review upcoming work over a two- to three-day planning horizon and match crew skills, vehicles, equipment, and resources with operational needs.
- Monitor daily jobs and proactively resolve staffing, scheduling, equipment, customer-service, and logistical issues.
- Respond to drivers’ and crews’ operational needs and provide timely direction or support.
- Confirm service and arrival details with customers as appropriate.
- Coordinate with Credit and Collections to confirm that required credit approvals or payment arrangements are in place before services are performed.
- Ensure that crew paperwork, cash receipts, and related operational records are accurately collected and submitted.
Warehouse, Fleet, and Resource Coordination
- Coordinate warehouse operating hours and ensure that the facility is properly opened, closed, and secured.
- Maintain regular visibility throughout the warehouse and coach warehouse leadership, supervisors, leads, and crews on safe and efficient storage practices.
- Support the proper organization and protection of customer goods within fixed shelving, vault storage, and flexible storage areas.
- Promote collaboration between household-goods operations and special-project teams, including the effective sharing of available employees, equipment, and warehouse space.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of packing materials, reusable equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Ensure that local vehicles are properly stocked with the equipment and materials crews need to complete assignments safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate and current records of drivers, employees, vehicles, equipment, and operational contact information.
Safety, Quality, and Customer Service
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and exceptional customer service.
- Consistently administer company policies, safety requirements, uniform standards, and operating procedures.
- Ensure that warehouses, vehicles, equipment, and job sites are maintained in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
- Monitor service quality and address operational concerns before they affect the customer experience.
- Respond professionally and empathetically to customer questions or concerns and work toward timely, practical resolutions.
- Use available UniGroup training and company resources to reinforce safe work practices, service standards, and operational excellence.
Leadership and Team Management
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, selecting, onboarding, and training operations employees.
- Plan and adjust staffing levels to meet seasonal demand and changing business needs.
- Provide clear expectations, ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and day-to-day direction to operations employees.
- Train and reinforce proper packing, loading, moving, material-handling, and customer-service techniques.
- Conduct regular dock, safety, and operations meetings to communicate priorities, performance expectations, procedural changes, and training topics.
- Recognize strong performance and help employees develop their skills and advance within the organization.
- Address performance and conduct concerns promptly and consistently, in coordination with Human Resources.
- Build a respectful, team-oriented work environment aligned with the company’s values and service commitments.
Qualifications
- Five to eight years of experience in the moving and storage, transportation, logistics, warehouse, or a closely related industry is preferred.
- Two to three years of supervisory or management experience is preferred.
- Direct experience in dispatch, warehouse operations, moving operations, transportation, or service-delivery management is strongly preferred.
- Thorough understanding of the moving process and the responsibilities associated with each stage of service delivery.
- Ability to evaluate scheduled work and match crew skills, labor requirements, vehicles, equipment, and tools with operational needs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead employees, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership, coaching, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer-service orientation with the ability to handle challenging situations professionally and constructively.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accurate and complete work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn dispatch, transportation, and operational software.
- Ability to work collaboratively across Operations, Sales, Customer Service, Accounting, Human Resources, and other departments.
- Willingness to work additional hours, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends, when operational demands require.
- Commitment to following and consistently administering company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in an office and warehouse environment. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for several hours per shift; have full use of hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, lift, and reach; full use of legs to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, or crawl; full use of hearing, vision, and voice . Able to lift 60 lbs repetitively and team-lift up to 90 lbs.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per hour
