Welding Inspector QA/QC (AWS CWI or CSWIP)
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Welding Inspector QA/QC with current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or CSWIP Welding Inspector certification to ensure welding quality and compliance across fabrication and installation activities. The role focuses on visual and documented inspection of welds, verification of welder qualifications and procedures, coordination of nondestructive testing, and maintaining QA/QC records to meet project specifications, industry codes and company standards.
Key Responsibilities

Perform visual and documented inspection of welds in the shop and field to ensure conformity with project specifications, welding procedures and applicable codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, API).

Verify welder qualifications and procedure qualifications, review WPS/PQR documentation and ensure implementation of approved welding procedures.

Plan, coordinate and/or perform nondestructive testing (NDT) activities such as MT, PT, UT and RT or liaise with certified NDT technicians; witness and document tests.

Prepare clear, accurate inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs) and daily inspection records; maintain QA/QC documentation and track corrective actions to closure.

Monitor and enforce safety, quality and environmental practices on site and in the shop; ensure compliance with company and client HSE requirements.

Collaborate with project engineers, fabrication supervisors, contractors and clients to resolve quality issues, clarify specifications and implement corrective actions.

Support internal and external audits and inspections; provide input for continuous improvement of welding quality processes.

Perform pre-production inspection, first-article inspection and final inspection activities as required.

Provide on-the-job guidance and training to production personnel and apprentices regarding welding quality and acceptance criteria.

Participate in project meetings, progress reviews and handover activities to ensure quality requirements are understood and met.
Qualifications

Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification OR current CSWIP Welding Inspector certification (mandatory).

Minimum 3-5 years of relevant welding inspection experience in fabrication and/or construction; experience with pressure vessels, piping, structural steel or energy projects preferred.

Strong knowledge of welding processes, WPS/PQR review, welder qualification requirements and acceptance criteria per ASME, AWS D1.1, API and other applicable codes and standards.

Familiarity with nondestructive testing methods (MT, PT, UT, RT) and ability to interpret NDT reports; relevant NDT certifications are a plus.

Proven experience preparing inspection reports, NCRs and maintaining QA/QC documentation and traceability.

Technical diploma or degree in Welding Technology, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and proven problem-solving skills.

Proficient with common office software (MS Word, Excel, email) and experience with QA/QC databases or inspection software preferred.

Ability to work in the field and shop, including climbing, confined spaces and working at heights when required; valid safety credentials (e.g., OSHA, CSCS) advantageous.
