Do you enjoy playing chess and working with children? Dream Enrichment Classes is seeking enthusiastic and dependable After-School Chess Instructors to teach engaging chess classes to elementary school students during the 2026–2027 school year.
Our Chess Academy introduces students to chess fundamentals, strategies, sportsmanship, critical thinking, and problem-solving through structured lessons, games, and friendly competition. We provide the curriculum, teaching materials, chess sets, and training—you bring the energy, patience, and enthusiasm!
Position Responsibilities
- Teach beginner and intermediate chess lessons to students in grades K–6.
- Explain chess rules, strategies, tactics, and terminology in an age-appropriate manner.
- Lead practice games, puzzles, demonstrations, and friendly tournaments.
- Encourage good sportsmanship, patience, confidence, and critical thinking.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom environment.
- Take attendance and supervise student check-in and dismissal.
- Set up and clean up chess equipment and classroom materials.
- Communicate professionally with school staff, parents, and Dream Enrichment Classes management.
- Follow all company policies, lesson plans, safety procedures, and reporting requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of chess rules, strategies, and basic tactics.
- Prior experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, or working with children.
- Ability to manage a classroom of elementary school students.
- Energetic, patient, dependable, and comfortable speaking in front of groups.
- A Valid Driver's license is required along with reliable transportation and a willingness to travel to assigned school locations.
- Ability to arrive on time and commit to the full class session.
- Must complete all required background checks, onboarding, and training.
- Must provide proof of required California Mandated Reporter training before beginning work.
Formal teaching experience is preferred but not required. College students, education majors, experienced chess players, coaches, tutors, retired educators, and individuals who enjoy working with children are encouraged to apply.
Schedule
Classes are generally held Monday through Friday between approximately 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., depending on the school’s dismissal time. Most instructors teach two or three days per week, with each assignment lasting approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, including setup and dismissal responsibilities.
Additional teaching assignments may be available based on instructor availability, location, and performance.
