Duties
- Perform blood sampling (venipuncture) and other specimen collection procedures with precision, adhering to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Collect, process, label, and handle specimens accurately according to laboratory procedures and quality standards.
- Obtain vital signs and assess patient physiology to ensure safe and effective specimen collection, especially in geriatrics and pediatric populations.
- Maintain clear documentation of all procedures in electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems, including data entry and specimen tracking.
- Provide exceptional patient care by explaining procedures clearly, addressing concerns, and ensuring comfort during collection.
- Transport specimens securely to designated laboratories while maintaining proper handling protocols.
- Follow laboratory techniques and safety guidelines diligently, including blood sampling, specimen handling, and infection control practices such as aseptic technique.
- Assist in training or mentoring new team members on laboratory procedures, venipuncture techniques, and patient interaction skills.
- Support hospital or clinic staff by coordinating specimen collection schedules and ensuring timely delivery of samples for testing.
- Demonstrate physical stamina by managing heavy lifting when necessary and working efficiently in various environments.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, or clinical laboratory work with a strong understanding of laboratory techniques.
- Valid certification in phlebotomy or related field; Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and blood sampling techniques tailored for diverse patient populations including pediatrics and geriatrics.
- Prior hospital or healthcare facility experience preferred; familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for data entry is highly desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages while demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and work in physically demanding environments while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of clinical laboratory procedures, specimen collection/processing standards, and aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of vital signs measurement and basic patient care practices essential for ensuring safety during specimen collection.

Pay: $24.60 - $29.63 per hour
