WHAT YOU’LL DO
As the Component Manufacturing & Material Sales General Manager, you will lead the overall performance of Michigan Timber & Truss's manufacturing facility and material sales yard. You will be responsible for aligning operations, sales, safety, inventory, and customer service to drive profitability and operational excellence. This role requires a hands-on leader who can develop teams, optimize processes, manage financial performance, and collaborate with company leadership to support growth while ensuring customers receive exceptional products and services.
THE NITTY GRITTY

Own the combined P&L for MTT manufacturing and material sales yard: labor ratios, material cost, throughput, margin, and sales performance against approved budget and benchmarks

Direct daily production operations across truss and wall panel manufacturing, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery

Direct daily material sales yard operations, including counter and contractor sales, inventory management, yard safety, and customer service standards

Lead, coach, and develop leadership across both functions, including Design, Production, Dispatch, and Sales Yard roles; build a clear organizational structure with defined roles and accountability

Drive continuous improvement across systems and management, reporting and measurement, process standardization, inventory and costing, and sales overflow for both manufacturing and material sales

Own production scheduling and capacity planning in coordination with sales and design to protect committed delivery dates

Align material inventory, purchasing, and stocking levels at the sales yard with both retail/contractor demand and MTT's manufacturing needs

Establish and maintain KPI reporting (production efficiency, on-time delivery, scrap/waste, sales volume and margin, safety incidents) and communicate results to executive leadership

Ensure proactive, timely communication of order status, delays, and acknowledgements to internal and external customers across both the plant and the sales yard

Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable regulations across both operations

Partner with Mans Lumber branches and executive leadership on capital planning, staffing, and long-term growth strategy for Michigan Timber & Truss

Manage vendor and supplier relationships critical to both production (lumber, connector plates, MiTek systems, equipment) and material sales (lumber, building materials, and related product lines)
WHAT YOU NEED
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience

7+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing and/or lumber & building materials (LBM) sales operations

Experience in wood component manufacturing, truss production, building products, manufacturing, or related industries, preferred

Demonstrated success managing a full P&L and achieving operational and financial goals

Strong knowledge of production scheduling, plant operations, inventory management, and continuous improvement methodologies

Experience with MiTek software or similar truss design and production systems, preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a hands-on, on-site leadership role requiring regular interaction with office staff, production teams, customers, vendors, and leadership across both the manufacturing facility and material yard sales. This position operates in a fast-paced environment that combines strategic leadership with daily operational oversight.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires frequent movement throughout the manufacturing facility and material sales yard including standing, walking, bending, and navigating production and warehouse environments. The role also requires regular operational oversight on the plant floor and the ability to occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Work hours may vary based on business needs, with flexibility required to support operational priorities, customer demands, and company objectives.
