Job/Position Title: Occupational Therapist
Reports to: Director Hours: 6-14 hours per week or negotiable
Salary: $35/hr (40 weeks/yr)
Position Overview:
Responsible for providing transdisciplinary model occupational therapy services to children with special needs at Bright Hope Learning Center. Must be a licensed occupational therapist and function within the trans-disciplinary (TD) philosophy and team of the Bright Hope.
Principal duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Performs OT assessments, therapy interventions and documentation for children with special needs per BHLC policies and timelines
- Develops appropriate therapeutic goals, in conjunction with the families, for each child assigned
- Establishes and provides occupational therapy intervention consistent with transdisciplinary (TD) functions and approach.
- Consults with classroom staff and parents regarding equipment, sensory, behavioral, self-care, fine motor and other therapeutic needs of the children.
- Models for classroom staff therapeutic, sensory and behavioral interventions, therapeutic small group activities and proper use of equipment in a TD manner.
- Provides in-service training to staff, volunteers, and parents when requested or as needed.
- Collaborates with other (TD) team members regarding the total therapeutic needs of the children.
- Designs and directs classroom fine motor activities which are aligned with the curriculum
- Consults, as needed, with outside therapists, professionals or agencies that are providing assistance to a particular student, to ensure coordination of programs.
- Participates in assistive technology (AT) and (TD) team functions and documentation as assigned
- Serves as point therapist for a classroom to manage team staffing and documentation and other special class specific activities as assigned
- Other duties as needed or required.

Supervision Exercised:
- Oversees and implements the occupational therapy intervention for students in classrooms
- Supervises and instructs BHLC staff in the occupational therapy interventions during their assigned time at Bright Hope Learning Center.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- Licensed in State of Kentucky as an Occupational Therapist or in the process of obtaining an Kentucky license in Occupational Therapy
- Holds current CPR certification or willing to get it
- Maintains professional license, required continuing education units
- Possesses current and effective knowledge and skills in:
- Neuromotor development and child development
- Sensory Processing
- Assessment and documentation
- Adaptive equipment and assistive technology
- Occupational therapy procedures and interventions
- Interpersonal relationships
- Supervision of assigned employees, students or volunteers
- Manages confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.
- Personal relationship with Christ .
- Support for and participation in Bright Hope's trans-disciplinary team approach to special education.
- Works independently and cooperatively as a team member with all LLH staff.
- Demonstrates emotional stability, maturity, and a desire to grow spiritually such that spiritual principles will be reflected in day-to-day interactions, with a genuine concern for a job well done.
- Incorporate a welcoming and teaching attitude towards guests, student interns and others who come to learn from the Bright Hope team.
Preferred:
- Experience with children birth through six years of age.
- Experience with working in a transdisciplinary team environment.
- At least one year’s experience working with children with developmental disabilities
