Duties
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of fire alarm systems, including proprietary control panels, sensors, and associated components, to verify proper operation and compliance with NFPA standards and local fire codes.
- Test fire alarm system functionality using hand tools, testing equipment, and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) schematics to identify issues or potential failures.
- Read electrical blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings to accurately assess system design and installation quality.
- Perform system troubleshooting using engineering principles to diagnose faults related to sensors, wiring, or control panels; implement effective repairs or coordinate with technicians for resolution.
- Inspect related life safety systems such as sprinkler systems and low voltage electrical work to ensure integrated building safety measures are functioning correctly.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance activities, and system modifications for compliance documentation.
- Provide exceptional customer service by clearly communicating inspection results, system issues, and recommended solutions to clients or facility managers.
Requirements
- Proven experience in fire alarm system inspection, maintenance, or installation within commercial or industrial settings.
- Strong knowledge of fire alarm systems, proprietary control panels, sensors, schematics, and NFPA standards.
- Ability to read electrical blueprints and construction drawings accurately; familiarity with CAD software is a plus.
- Mechanical knowledge related to sprinkler systems, low voltage wiring, and fire sprinkler fitting is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with field service work involving hand tools, electrical troubleshooting, and system testing.
- Understanding of building code compliance requirements including NEC (National Electrical Code) regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical or mechanical issues efficiently.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally.
- Valid certifications in fire alarm inspection or related fields are preferred; ongoing training in NFPA standards is encouraged.
