Emergency Support Services, LLC is a small, family-owned business headquartered in Phoenix, with multiple locations in Arizona, Idaho & California. As a company, we provide support services to government entities, primarily focusing on wild-land forest fire suppression efforts. What is the job?
We are hiring Seasonal drivers who can operate as Non-CDL Drivers delivering fire equipment with regular pick-up trucks and flatbed trucks with trailers.
This job will require you to be on the road delivering and picking up in several states throughout the Western US with little to no home time during peak wildfire season. Overnights (Sometimes days/weeks) will be needed/required at fire camps, where no hotels are available (meals, showers, & sleeping accommodations are provided at fire camps.)
This position will require assisting the company with general equipment transportation, with a strong focus on on-time preparation and delivery of clean and maintained company equipment. This position requires a clean driving record, including working safely and efficiently with the ability to move, lift heavy objects, load, strap, and unload heavy objects frequently. Mechanical abilities are a huge plus.
This position requires driving a company-provided vehicle, therefore, you must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver's license. A DOT Physical Med Card is required. Offer of employment is contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications. Drug and/or alcohol testing will/may be required in case of an accident.
What are the details?
- Operating a delivery vehicle to/from the company’s yards, suppliers, & delivery sites.
- Safely loading & unloading equipment including heavy loads, supplies & parts at the company’s yards & delivery sites.
- Strapping & securing loads based on best practices.
- Daily documenting pre-trip inspection of the vehicle for mechanical & safety issues.
- Implementing safety stops along the route to check load, securement, tires, brakes, & axles.
- Clearly communicate and follow directions from fire personnel. Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English is required.
What do we need from you?
- Able to respond to work assignments with short notice, and able to remain on assignment for extended periods of time.
- Must be dependable and available to Drive OTR and to stay on site at Fire Camps. Overnight stay durations vary and are based on the job.
- Must be able to operate a flat bed truck with a large trailer loaded with equipment and we do require previous towing experience.
- Must be able to work independently, with little oversight.
- Previous towing experience is a must.
- Ability to stand, climb, reach, bend, twist, lift, push, & pull heavy objects throughout complete shifts.
- Ability to work in remote forest environments which include extreme high and low temperatures, rain, snow, and heavy smoke.
- Comfortable driving in mountainous terrain for extended periods of time.
- Able to work long shifts multiple days in a row.
- Extremely detail-orientated, with the ability to follow processes & procedures.
- Required to comply with all FMCSA, DOT, and local laws & regulations (including, but not limited to: size, weight, route designations, HOS requirements, document and log work/rest periods and miles driving).
This job will consist of many broad tasks, primarily related to the duties of servicing, driving, and maintenance.
Valid Driver’s License/ Satisfactory Driving History - This position requires driving a company-provided vehicle. Our non-CDL vehicles are still classified as CMVs (Commercial Motor Vehicles) and while they do not require a CDL, you are required to comply with our policies and procedures which are dictated by the FMSCA & DOT. Therefore, you must be able to pass a motor vehicle history check, be able to obtain a DOT Med Card, agree to prior employment verification (if applicable), and possess/maintain a current, valid driver's license. Offer of employment is contingent upon meeting all qualifications.
