Family Registration Specialist

Family Registration Specialist
Summary:
-
Process and complete registration for all students of New Bedford Public Schools.

Administer any necessary assessments and screenings upon a student’s registration.

Assist families with any questions, concerns, or changes to their child’s information
Responsibilities:
-
Provide information regarding services through various community partners to respond to families’ individual needs.

Assist the Family Registration Center team with the registration of new students and with duties related to the recruitment, enrollment, placement of schools, and special programs. (number 1.)

Answer all incoming calls from parents related to student registration and/or Family Support Line.

Assist families with supplemental services, address changes, notary services, magnet or school choice applications, caregiver affidavits, referrals, and interpretations.

Maintain accurate electronic student records.

Assist students and parents with completion of registration materials. Provide brief orientation to new students and families.

Identify students in Foster Care or in a homeless situation at time of enrollment.

Identify students that may be in Foster Care or homeless and provide specialized services to all families enrolling in NBPS
-
Attend parent nights associated with the Family Registration Center and other New Bedford Public School sites.

Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications:
-
High School Degree or equivalent required.
-
Bilingual/multilingual speaking (strongly encouraged) with strong ties to the community.

Minimum of 2 years of experience working with schools, families, and preschool students is required.

Comprehensive knowledge of community agencies and partnerships to assist families and their needs.

Knowledge and understanding of Special Education, English Learners (EL), Migrant, McKinney-Vento, and Early Childhood programs.

Basic Computer knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Excellent organization and management skills.

Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and/or Crioulo and/or K’iche’ (read, write, speak) preferred.

Rate: $22.50 - $24.50/hour based on experience
