The landscaping work for this job opening is on green roofs (rooftop gardens) in the Metro DC area.
Team Lead duties Include:
- Filling out report forms for each work site
- Working with a co-manager
- Communication with the maintenance department office staff
- Packing equipment for the day’s tasks and making sure it gets back to the office at the end of the day
- Working with your team on site
- Assisting your team members with punch clock errors
Maintenance tasks for you and your team include, but are not limited to:
- Weeding
- Pruning
- Planting cuttings/plugs to increase coverage.
- Replacing dead plants
- Setting up and maintaining irrigation systems
- Applying fertilizer, pre-emergent and other pesticides
- Clearing out drains and other non-vegetated areas
- Assessing and investigating any damage found on the green roof sections
What your day would look like:
- Meeting at the office at 7:00am and assisting your team with packing for the day
- Dividing workers between team leads
- You will be visiting anywhere from one to four job sites in a day
- On site, regular landscape maintenance including planting, weeding, pruning, irrigation, and application of pesticides and herbicides
- Safety equipment including a vest, hard hat, harness, gloves and safety goggles will be provided to you
- This position often entails being exposed to the sun and high temperatures for many hours at a time during the summer months
- Work is canceled during certain weather conditions including heavy rain, extreme winds, and/or poor air quality
Summary
As a Green Roof Landscape Team Lead, you will be essential in ensuring the maintenance team's work days move smoothly. You will report to the Maintenance Department Operations Manager. Strong leadership and communications skills will be important. You will be filling out quick site reports via a phone app daily and uploading pictures to a cloud drive.
Along with leadership tasks, you will be working with your team weeding, trimming, irrigating, mowing, fertilizing, applying milky spore, and planting to ensuring that all areas are aesthetically pleasing and healthy. Weeding tools, string trimmers, hedge trimmers and loppers are among the tools you will be utilizing. Your relevant skills in tree care, irrigation, and gardening will further support our commitment to creating beautiful landscapes. Qualifications
- Strong communication skills
- Experience leading a small landscaping crew
- Experience in landscape maintenance and gardening
- Strong knowledge of lawn care techniques and tree care practices
- Proficiency in using hand tools
- Familiarity with irrigation systems and groundskeeping methods
- Ability to work effectively in various weather conditions and physical environments
