Job Overview
Freedom High School is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and knowledgeable High School Golf Coach to lead our golf program. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for the game of golf, a commitment to student-athlete development, and the ability to foster a culture of sportsmanship, academic excellence, and teamwork.
As a coach at Freedom High School, you will be responsible for teaching golf fundamentals, managing match logistics, ensuring student safety, and representing OCPS with professionalism and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction & Player Development: Plan and execute daily practices focusing on swing mechanics, short game, course management, and the rules of golf.
- Match Management: Coordinate and oversee all home and away matches, tournaments, and practices.
- Student-Athlete Welfare: Monitor the academic progress, behavior, and physical well-being of all student-athletes. Ensure strict adherence to FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) eligibility requirements.
- Equipment & Facilities: Manage team equipment, uniforms, and coordinate practice schedules with local golf courses.
- Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with student-athletes, parents, school administration, Athletic Director, and media.
- Supervision: Provide direct supervision to athletes at all times during practices, travel, and competitions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Golf Knowledge: Prior competitive playing experience or coaching experience (high school, collegiate, or PGA/LPGA apprentice level preferred).
- Certifications: * Must hold or be eligible for a Florida Athletic Coaching Certificate or a valid Florida Teaching Certificate.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Completion of all mandatory FHSAA and OCPS compliance courses (e.g., Concussion in Sports, Heat Illness Prevention, Sudden Cardiac Arrest).
- Background Clearance: Must successfully pass the OCPS fingerprinting and background screening process.
- Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends during the golf season.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate high school student-athletes of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced players.
- Deep understanding of FHSAA golf rules, regulations, and scoring procedures.
- A positive role model who emphasizes character development and sportsmanship.
Compensation
Paid via an athletic supplemental stipend in accordance with the OCPS Special Supplement Salary Schedule
