Dutchess County Department of Public Works – Parks
2026 Salary: $26.45 per hour
This is a seasonal hourly position in the Dutchess County Department of Public Works-Parks.
This position involves responsibility for a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in park
maintenance and construction work. Incumbents participate in construction projects and year
round maintenance and repair of grounds, facilities, and equipment. The class differs from that of
Park Manager by virtue of the absence of planning and supervisory responsibilities. While
supervision is not normally a function of this class, some supervision or direction of others may
be required in the absence of the Park Manager. An employee in this class may be required to
work hours other than in the normal work week.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Participates in building maintenance and repair activities including plumbing, electrical,
carpentry, masonry, and painting; Participates in major renovation and construction projects;
Participates in grounds maintenance, including seasonal care of trees shrubs flowers, ground
preparation for lawn rejuvenation, planting and fertilization activities and refuse collection. This
includes pesticide application and control under direction of the Park Manager; Participates in
the operation, maintenance and repair of motor equipment and power tools used in park
maintenance including dump trucks, tractors, front-end loaders, back hoes, rollers, mowers,
chain saws and snowplows; Participates in the cleaning and repair of dirt and asphalt roads;
Participates in ice and snow removal activities on roads, parking lots and walkways; Patrols the
park to prevent fires, hunting, and vandalism; Cleans buildings and park facilities; May keep a
variety of simple records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EITHER: (A) Three (3) years of paid work experience in general building maintenance
or construction trades;
OR: (B) Two (2) years of paid work experience in parks maintenance which
included building maintenance or repair;
OR: (C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in (A)
and (B) above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid Driver License to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at time of
application, and to maintain the position.
FINGERPRINTING: A fingerprint supported background investigation is required before an
appointment is made to some positions. Pursuant to New York State Executive Law, the Division
of Criminal Justice Services requires that a fee accompany each such request for a search. It is
due once a job offer is made and accepted by the applicant.
