The Breakfast Attendant is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and cleaning the hotel's complimentary breakfast area while providing friendly and attentive service to our guests. This position plays an important role in ensuring breakfast is fully stocked, clean, organized, and ready for guests throughout the entire breakfast service period.
We are looking for someone who is dependable, energetic, friendly, organized, and able to anticipate guest needs. The ideal candidate takes pride in presentation and understands that breakfast is an important part of the overall guest experience.
Breakfast Responsibilities
- Arrive on time and ensure the breakfast area is completely prepared and ready before the scheduled opening time.
- Prepare and set up breakfast items according to Residence Inn by Marriott standards and hotel procedures.
- Maintain appropriate quantities of hot and cold breakfast items throughout the entire breakfast service.
- Regularly monitor the buffet and replenish food before items run out.
- Prepare and replenish coffee, beverages, cereals, breads, pastries, condiments, utensils, plates, cups, napkins, and other breakfast supplies.
- Ensure food is presented neatly and attractively throughout service.
- Monitor food temperatures and follow established food-safety procedures.
- Rotate products properly and follow appropriate storage and labeling procedures.
- Remove expired, damaged, or unacceptable products from service.
- Maintain awareness of breakfast inventory and notify management when products or supplies are running low.
- Minimize unnecessary food waste while ensuring adequate breakfast availability for guests.
- Follow hotel and brand requirements for breakfast preparation, presentation, and service.
Guest Service
The Breakfast Attendant is highly visible to our guests and is expected to provide friendly and professional service throughout the shift.
You will be expected to:
- Greet guests warmly and professionally.
- Be attentive and available during breakfast service.
- Answer reasonable questions regarding breakfast offerings and hotel services.
- Respond promptly when guests advise that an item needs to be replenished.
- Maintain a welcoming and positive atmosphere in the breakfast area.
- Communicate guest concerns to the Front Desk or management when appropriate.
- Maintain professional behavior and appearance while interacting with guests.
- Help ensure each guest feels welcomed and appreciated.
Cleanliness & Sanitation
- Continuously clean and wipe tables, chairs, counters, serving areas, and other breakfast surfaces.
- Remove trash throughout breakfast service and replace liners as needed.
- Keep floors clean and immediately address spills or potential safety hazards.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary food-preparation area.
- Clean and sanitize food-contact surfaces according to established procedures.
- Wash dishes, utensils, serving equipment, and breakfast supplies as required.
- Keep refrigerators, cabinets, storage areas, and breakfast equipment clean and organized.
- Follow all food-safety, sanitation, handwashing, and chemical-handling requirements.
- Maintain proper separation and storage of food and cleaning products.
- Complete required cleaning and sanitation duties at the end of breakfast service.
Closing & Preparation for the Next Day
Breakfast service does not end when the buffet closes. The Breakfast Attendant is responsible for properly closing the breakfast area and preparing for the following day's service.
Responsibilities include:
- Properly remove and store approved food items after breakfast.
- Dispose of food that cannot be safely stored or reused.
- Clean and sanitize all breakfast equipment and serving areas.
- Wash and properly store dishes, utensils, pans, and serving equipment.
- Sweep and mop breakfast and preparation areas.
- Empty trash and properly dispose of waste.
- Restock supplies needed for the following morning.
- Review inventory and communicate shortages to management.
- Complete reasonable advance preparation for the next day's breakfast.
- Leave the kitchen, breakfast area, and storage areas clean, organized, and ready for the next shift.
Teamwork & Hotel Support
As a member of the JNR Management team, the Breakfast Attendant is expected to work cooperatively with other hotel departments.
Depending on operational needs, you may be asked to:
- Assist with keeping lobby and breakfast-adjacent public areas clean and organized.
- Help receive and organize breakfast deliveries.
- Assist with inventory and supply organization.
- Communicate maintenance issues involving breakfast equipment immediately.
- Work with the Front Desk to anticipate breakfast volume based on hotel occupancy.
- Assist other departments with reasonable duties after breakfast responsibilities have been completed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on the operational needs of the hotel.
Qualifications
- Previous hotel breakfast, food service, restaurant, hospitality, or customer service experience is preferred but not required.
- Dependable and able to report to work on time, including early-morning shifts.
- Friendly, professional, and comfortable interacting with guests.
- Strong attention to cleanliness and presentation.
- Ability to work independently and recognize what needs to be done without constant supervision.
- Ability to maintain breakfast service during busy periods.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow food-safety and sanitation requirements.
- Ability to follow Marriott brand standards and JNR Management policies and procedures.
- Willingness to assist other members of the hotel team when needed.
- Availability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays based on hotel operations.
Physical Requirements
This is an active position requiring extended periods of standing and walking.
Team members must be able to safely perform repetitive bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling associated with normal breakfast operations.
The position requires handling food and supplies, stocking serving areas, carrying trays and containers, moving trash, cleaning equipment, and performing routine cleaning and sanitation duties.
