Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Pre-Operative / PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Registered Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in perioperative nursing, critical care, and patient assessment, with a passion for delivering exceptional pre- and post-surgical care. This role involves preparing patients for surgery, monitoring recovery, managing acute pain, and ensuring safety throughout the perioperative process.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments prior to surgery, including vital signs, medical history review, and physiological evaluations.
- Prepare patients for procedures by ensuring proper documentation, verifying consent, and educating them on perioperative processes.
- Monitor patients closely during recovery in the PACU, managing airway management, ventilator support, and vital signs to ensure stability.
- Administer medications including analgesics, sedatives, and antibiotics while adhering to aseptic techniques and medication safety protocols.
- Manage acute pain through appropriate interventions and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient comfort.
- Document all patient care activities accurately within electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Respond promptly to emergencies such as airway compromise or adverse reactions by utilizing critical care response procedures and advanced life support skills.
Skills
- Proven experience working as a Registered Nurse in perioperative settings such as OR or PACU environments.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and anatomy relevant to surgical care.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation.
- Skilled in IV infusion, venipuncture, suturing, and catheter care with aseptic technique adherence.
- Experience managing patients with complex needs including those requiring dialysis or long-term care support.
- Familiarity with trauma medicine standards including Level I & II trauma center protocols.
- Ability to perform physical examinations, vital signs assessment, and diagnostic evaluation efficiently.
