THE POSITION
As a Custodial Worker 1 with the Department of Human Services (DHS) at Norristown State Hospital you will help keep the facility clean and welcoming for everyone who depends on its services. This role offers a chance to contribute to the hospital's daily operations in a hands-on and meaningful way. You will join a hardworking team that takes pride in maintaining high standards. Your efforts support an efficient and comfortable environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position provides housekeeping services that support the daily operations of Norristown State Hospital. The work focuses on maintaining clean, orderly, and sanitary conditions throughout the facility. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Floor Care: Dust, mop, strip, wax, and polish floors; clean carpets and shampoo when necessary; and clean baseboards in assigned areas
- Surface Cleaning: Spot clean walls, wipe windows and sills, clean stairwells, clean and polish furniture, fixtures, lavatories, and replace related supplies
- Deep Cleaning: Complete terminal cleaning of beds, dressers, lockers, cabinets, and replace mattresses
- Outdoor and Waste Tasks: Gather and remove trash, sweep walkways and entrances, and shovel snow when needed
- Equipment and Fixture Care: Clean water coolers, maintain dietary areas and equipment, replace light bulbs, and clean light fixtures
- Records and Communication: Report maintenance needs and housekeeping supply shortages to the supervisor and complete required documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
