About Althea
Althea Infusion & Specialty Pharmacy is a vertically integrated outpatient infusion center and specialty pharmacy serving patients across Southern California. We support therapies across neurology, immunology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and pulmonology, and we are building a care model where patients get answers fast and never fall through the cracks. This is an opportunity to help shape how a growing organization runs.
The Role
We are hiring a Manager of Care Coordination to own the patient access engine. This is a hands on leadership role sitting where benefits investigation (medical and pharmacy), insurance navigation, pharmacy operations, and clinical coordination meet. You will run the day to day, lead the team doing the work, and build the processes that let us scale.
Core Responsibilities
- Own daily operations of the patient access function, from benefits investigation through prior authorization approval and reauthorization
- Manage access and coordination for patients on specialty infusion therapies, including biologics, IVIG, and SCIG, across autoimmune, neurological, and rheumatological conditions
- Build, lead, coach, and hold accountable a team of patient access and care coordination staff, including performance feedback and development
- Partner with pharmacy, nursing, and reimbursement teams to keep onboarding smooth and therapy uninterrupted
- Translate benefit details, including copay, coinsurance, deductible, and out of pocket exposure, into clear guidance for internal teams and patients
- Evaluate coverage pathways for each patient, including manufacturer copay assistance, foundation support, and free drug programs
- Serve as the escalation point for complex authorization denials, appeals, and billing issues
- Refine SOPs, workflows, and quality standards as the department grows
- Onboard and train new team members
- Communicate with patients, caregivers, and provider offices with clarity and compassion
What We Are Looking For
- Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years in benefits investigation, prior authorization, and insurance verification, with demonstrated infusion or specialty pharmacy experience
- Supervisory or team lead experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of specialty medications, biologics, IVIG, and infusion therapy access
- Strong communication and patient service skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Preferred Experience
- Specialty pharmacy or home infusion pharmacy operations, including intake, dispensing coordination, and pharmacy to clinic handoffs
- Medical billing and claims experience, including claims submission, denial management, appeals, and EOB review
- Experience with medical credentialing and contracting with payers
- Familiarity with buy and bill versus specialty pharmacy channel dynamics and payer coverage rules
- Working knowledge of J codes, HCPCS, ICD-10, and CPT as they apply to infusion reimbursement
- Experience with Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial payer authorization requirements
- Exposure to hub services, manufacturer patient assistance programs, and copay foundations
- Experience with infusion or specialty pharmacy platforms such as WeInfuse, CPR+, CareTend, or SamaCare
- Track record of building SOPs, training programs, or workflows from the ground up
