Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Haitian Creole Interpreter to facilitate clear and accurate communication across diverse settings. In this role, you will serve as a vital bridge between Haitian Creole-speaking individuals and healthcare, social services, or legal professionals. Responsibilities
- Provide real-time interpretation for Haitian Creole-speaking clients during medical appointments, social work sessions, legal proceedings, or hospital interactions.
- Accurately translate spoken language from Haitian Creole to English and vice versa, maintaining the original tone and intent.
- Assist with documentation review and ensure all interpretation is compliant with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations to protect patient privacy.
- Support medical staff by translating complex medical terminology clearly and effectively for patients and providers.
- Facilitate communication during child protective services cases, hospital admissions, or social work interventions to ensure understanding and cooperation.
- Maintain detailed records of interpreted sessions, ensuring documentation accuracy for medical records or legal purposes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless communication across language barriers while respecting cultural sensitivities.
Skills
- Multilingual proficiency in Haitian Creole and English is essential; additional languages such as American Sign Language are a plus.
- Strong interpretation skills with the ability to convey messages accurately in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with healthcare environments including hospitals and clinics.
- Experience with translation services, documentation review, and maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and compassionately.
- Background in social work or child protective services is advantageous for understanding client needs and protocols.
