Junior/Senior High Social Studies Teacher
Position Summary
The Junior/Senior High School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for providing standards-based instruction in social studies to students in grades 7–12. This includes teaching courses such as history, civics, geography, and economics, while promoting critical thinking, research skills, and civic awareness. The teacher develops and delivers lesson plans, assesses student progress, and adapts instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, fostering a structured classroom environment, collaborating with colleagues, and supporting school and district initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
● Plan and deliver lessons aligned with state and district social studies standards
● Teach content areas such as U.S. history, world history, government, geography, and economics
● Promote critical thinking, discussion, and analysis of historical and current events
● Design and assess assignments, projects, and exams to measure student learning
● Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners
● Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment
● Monitor and communicate student progress with students, parents, and staff
● Incorporate technology and primary/secondary sources into instruction
● Participate in professional development and school activities
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, History, Education, or related field
● Valid Michigan teaching certification in Social Studies for secondary education
● Strong content knowledge across social studies disciplines
● Effective classroom management and communication skills
● Ability to engage students in meaningful discussion and inquiry
● Experience with curriculum development and standards alignment
● Familiarity with data-driven instruction and assessment practices
Reporting Structure
● Reports to: Principal
Collaborates with: District Administration, Counselors, Special Education Staff, Teachers, Student Support Teams, and Families
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
