The West Newton Borough Police Department is accepting applications for the position of We are looking for a dedicated, community-minded individual to join our team and help serve and protect the residents of our historic and close-knit borough.
Minimum Requirements
- U.S. Citizen
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 21 years of age
- Act 120 Certification (Must be completed at time of appointment)
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
- Must be able to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to community policing

West Newton Borough, located along the Youghiogheny River in Westmoreland County, is a scenic community with a rich history, family-friendly neighborhoods, and a strong tradition of public safety and civic involvement. Our officers are not only law enforcers, but also community partners who build relationships with residents and business owners.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Pay: From $22.00/hour including shift differentials
- Uniform/Allowance: all newly hired officers will be equipped with the following items at Borough’s expense: one (1) uniform, hat and badge. After probation, part-time officers are allotted allowance money per some many hours (ex: under 250 hrs. per year = $100.00). Must work a shift for 60 consecutive days to obtain uniform allowance.
- Part-time officers MUST have a bulletproof vest. 1 year of work you will be responsible for the cost of the vest. Once you have working between 2-4 years the Borough will pay for one-half (1/2) the cost of bullet proof vest. After 4 years the Borough will pay up to a specific dollar amount.
- Paid Time Off:
- 2 Sick Days per year (must have worked a minimum of 1200 hours the previous year - accumulation of up to 4 days)
- Hours of Work: Workweek shall consist of five (5) eight (8) hour days. Workweeks shall begin at 12:01am Sunday and conclude at 12:00 Midnight, the following Saturday. Part-Time officers will obtain shift differential Fridays and Saturdays for hours worked between 15:00 – 23:00 & 23:00 – 07:00.
