The Barista at Backporch Coffee exists to warmly welcome every guest, craft exceptional drinks with precision, and contribute to a culture built around amazing coffee and even better service.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
Guest Experience
- Greet every guest warmly and with urgency
- Learn regulars’ names and orders when possible
- Create positive, genuine interactions with guests and teammates
- Represent Backporch’s culture of amazing coffee and even better service
Craft & Coffee Knowledge
- Prepare high-quality drinks according to Backporch standards and recipes
- Complete required barista training and testing before independently working bar shifts
- Continuously learn about our sourcing practices, roast profiles, origins, and tasting notes
- Educate guests when appropriate and confidently answer product questions
Register & Sales
- Accurately process orders using the POS system
- Maintain 100% order-input accuracy
- Handle cash and credit transactions responsibly
- Practice thoughtful suggestive selling — not scripted, but rooted in genuine enthusiasm for our products
Operations & Cleanliness
- Complete opening, mid, and closing shift duties
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting workspace at all times
- Follow daily cleaning and side work checklists
- Monitor low-stock items and communicate with managers
- Assist with checking in vendor orders when needed
Accountability & Team Standards
- Arrive ready to work (apron on, hands washed, clocked in) at scheduled time
- Work a minimum of two shifts per week (schedule varies)
- Communicate proactively about schedule conflicts
- Participate in mandatory quarterly café meetings
- Obtain and maintain an Oregon Food Handler’s Card
- Uphold all food safety and company policies
Growth & Development
Baristas begin with structured training, including time on register before progressing to bar. Advancement and wage increases are tied to completion of internal barista certifications.
As Backporch continues to grow, so do opportunities for leadership and expanded responsibility.
What We’re Looking For
- 1–2 years of customer service or barista experience preferred (but we will train the right person)
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Clear and respectful communication skills
- Ability to receive and apply feedback
- A desire to contribute to something bigger than just a job

Employee discounts and Paid Sick Time.
Regarding pay, all baristas at Backporch start at a training wage of $15.05 per hour plus tips. Tips average to be $10 extra per hour plus or minus two dollars depending on the season. Backporch team members receive a fifty-cent raise for each of the three portions of the internal barista certification with fully-certified baristas making $16.55 per hour plus tips.
Pay: $15.05 - $17.00 per hour
