We are currently seeking applicants for a full-time Peer Support Specialist Position. The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) is a person who has lived experience of a mental illness, substance use disorder or co-occurring disorder; who has made the journey from illness to wellness and who is trained to help others with their journey.
The schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 9AM – 5PM.
Primary Responsibilities
- Function as a role model to peers
- Exhibit competency in personal recovery and the use of coping skills
- Serve as a consumer advocate
- Provide community resource services and peer support for clients in community settings
- Deliver a wide range of services to assist peers in regaining independence and mastery over their own recovery process
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED (additional education preferred)
- At least 1-2 years in recovery from mental health diagnosis, substance abuse, or both
- Demonstrated interest in the field
- Valid driver’s license with a driving record that is deemed insurable by the organization’s automobile liability insurance carrier
- Use of a personal vehicle in the performance of duties
- Must obtain Peer Support Specialist certification within 2 years of date of hire (having certification preferred)
- Must be willing to complete all assigned Relias coursework and all required COMAR certifications including mental health first aid/CPR
