Insight Global is seeking a Digitization Scientist to support the Pathology and Tissue Operations team of a leading global pharmaceutical organization in Gaithersburg, MD. This individual will play a critical role in the digitization, management, and quality review of clinical and pre-clinical tissue samples that support drug discovery, translational research, and early-stage clinical development programs. The Digitization Scientist will work closely with pathologists, imaging scientists, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the accurate scanning, analysis, tracking, and distribution of digital pathology data. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an early-career scientist to gain exposure to advanced imaging technologies, digital pathology workflows, AI initiatives, laboratory automation projects, and cutting-edge research across multiple therapeutic areas.
Responsibilities
- Perform slide digitization activities including slide scanning, image quality review, and image distribution to research teams.
- Conduct image analysis and automated quantification of tissue samples to support pathology and research initiatives.
- Execute routine and advanced automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures.
- Handle clinical, pre-clinical, and research tissue samples in accordance with Human Biological Specimen (HBS) guidelines and applicable quality standards.
- Ensure sample labeling, metadata accuracy, and proper tracking throughout the digitization workflow.
- Support image management processes and distribution of digital pathology data to global stakeholders.
- Analyze, interpret, document, and communicate scientific findings through technical summaries, reports, and presentations.
- Maintain laboratory documentation, protocols, electronic laboratory notebooks, and compliance records.
- Support sample shipment activities and ensure accurate inventory and tracking documentation.
- Collaborate with pathology, translational science, and clinical development teams to support ongoing research programs.
- Follow Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Contribute to troubleshooting, process improvements, and operational excellence initiatives within the laboratory.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Pathology, Histology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
- 1–3 years of hands-on laboratory experience.
- Understanding of biological sciences and laboratory workflows.
- Exposure to histology processes and tissue sample handling.
- Familiarity with tissue staining techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional scientific teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related scientific field.
- Histology laboratory experience.
- Experience with slide digitization, digital pathology platforms, or imaging/scanning environments.
- Familiarity with automated IHC staining platforms.
- Experience supporting research organizations, academic medical centers, or pharmaceutical environments.
- Exposure to histochemistry, multiplex staining, ISH, or advanced imaging technologies.

- 12 month contract + extensions
- 5 days on-site
Pay: $37.00 - $45.00 per hour
