Position Overview: The Accounting Specialist will support the Accounting and Treasury Operations teams to meet annual departmental goals. This role involves tasks related to operational and capital expenses, invoice management, monthly financial closings, reconciliations, variance analyses, and internal financial controls. The position is critical to maintaining accurate financial records, adhering to internal controls, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting:
- Prepare monthly operating expenses and accruals.
- Post journal entries for general expenses and accruals in compliance with SOX guidelines.
- Perform monthly bank account reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations.
Financial Reporting:
- Reconcile and prepare daily cash reports.
- Support the preparation of monthly financial reports, including variance analysis (month-over-month, actual vs. budget).
- Assist in preparing management expense adjustments and special event analyses.
Investment Management:
- Reconcile monthly investment portfolios, prepare journal entries, and reconcile money market accounts.
- Maintain the investment accounting subsidiary.
- Monitor state deposits and ensure accurate recording in financial statements.
- Assist with compliance reviews of investment portfolios against the company’s Investment Policy.
- Prepare quarterly CECL investment analyses for management review.
Accounts Payable:
- Serve as a backup for recording invoices and processing payments during peak periods or absences.
Internal Controls:
- Assist in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of internal financial controls and SOX-compliant procedures.
Other Duties:
- Support month-end and year-end financial closing processes.
- Assist in preparing NAIC quarterly and annual statement exhibits as required.
- Assist during external audits and regulatory reviews.
- Participate in special accounting and finance projects assigned by leadership.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in general accounting roles.
- Knowledge of GAAP principles; statutory accounting experience is a plus.
- Property & casualty insurance experience is a plus.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office, accounting systems, and databases.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work additional hours during operational peaks.
Language Requirements:
- Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex reports, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Skilled at presenting information clearly and effectively.
Technical and Mathematical Skills:
- Strong abilities in financial calculations, including budgets, forecasts, interest rates, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability:
- Capable of identifying complex problems, collecting and analyzing data, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical information and manage abstract and concrete variables.

- General office environment with moderate noise.
