JOB SUMMARY:
A personal care assistant (PCA) assist in monitoring students, modeling, practicing, and reinforcing academic and behavioral skills, ensuring the safety of students, and assisting with activities of daily living and/or community-based instruction.
A personal care assistant (PCA) may provide support to more than one student within a given classroom/building, but not at the same time. When the PCA is not working with an individual student in meeting personal care needs, the PCA may be assigned to work with more than one child to meet their instructional needs.
PCAs shall provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to their assignment each school year
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintain daily activity logs for your assigned student.
2. Complete all required documentation for Medical Access billing.
3. Assist student (s) in self-care needs (toileting and grooming activities) that allow the student to participate to the maximum extent in the least restrictive setting.
4. Implement and support individualized positive behavior support plans; provide scheduled reinforcement; utilize de-escalation strategies for highly escalated student behavior.
5. Assist the teacher with implementing the goals and objectives identified on the assigned student’s Individual Education Program (IEP)and participate in ongoing review and revision of the plan.
6. Reinforce, review, clarify, and re-teach concepts introduced by the teacher to individual and small groups of students under the classroom teacher's direction.
7. Prepare and support activities in classrooms and the community under the direction of the Special Education Teacher.
8. Adapt regular education classroom materials, including tests and quizzes, to meet the educational needs of students as listed in the students’ IEPs and as directed by the Special Education Teacher.
9. Maintain a working knowledge of students' current areas of need, goals, and strategies that are outlined in the student’s IEP.
10. Provide intensive one-to-one cognitive and behavioral reinforcements and escort students throughout the school buildings as requested.
11. Complete requested tasks on the computer, including assisting students with computer use.
12. Perform other duties as directed by the Special Education Teacher.
13. Engage in required professional development hours as the Pennsylvania Department of Education mandates.
